FEATURED STAFF COACHES

Greg Gatz

Greg Gatz - Strength & Conditioning Consultant - In 2009 Greg worked with the goalkeepers during “College Week”.  His contribution is just one of the additional benefits of the more advanced “College Week” curriculum.

Greg is the Director of Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports at UNC. While overseeing the facility management and organization of 20 sport teams, Gatz is directly in charge of program design and installation for several specific teams including baseball, wrestling, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, track and field (sprinters and hurdlers) and men's lacrosse.

Gatz has worked closely with several national champion teams at Carolina including women's soccer (1999, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009) and men's soccer (2001), as well as the 2002 UNC volleyball team that finished the season ranked No. 12, the highest in program history. He has also been an integral part of the baseball program's return to national prominence in the post-season. The baseball team recently won the ACC Championship (2007), has back-to-back regional and super regional championships (2006, 2007) and two back-to-back NCAA Championship runner-up finishes (2006, 2007).

Gatz was nominated in 2001 for College Strength and Conditioning Professional of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He holds a specialist certification from the NSCA and a Level I certification in Olympic weight lifting from the United States Weight Lifting Federation.

Complete Conditoning for SoccerGreg’s depth of knowledge in Strength & Conditioning and experience training top collegiate and professional athletes will be a HUGE asset to the Dynasty students.  Tracy met Greg after her career at UNC when he was hired in 1996.  He modernized the training of the Olympic Sports at UNC that had previously relied on football based strength and conditioning coaches.  He understands the unique demands of each sport and position and the result is sport specific/position specific training programs.  Tracy has had first hand experience with Greg as he trained her (along with several other U.S. Women’s National Team and WUSA players) during the off-season.  His expertise, passion, and demeanor brought out the best in our students and we were fortunate to have him join us in 2009.

Greg has recently written a book titled “Complete Conditioning For Soccer”.  This paperback sells for $23.95.  For further information, contact 1-800-747-4457.

Bill Steffen – Sports Psychologist - In 2009 Bill contributed to the “College Week” as a guest lecturer.  His discussion focused primarily on maintaining and restoring confidence, one of the biggest mental issues goalkeepers face throughout their career at every level of play.

Bil SteffenTracy first met Bill when she was coached by him at Soccer Plus Goalkeeper School as a youth player.  Their paths crossed again when he became her goalkeeper coach at the University of North Carolina from 1992-1995.  His knowledge of the game, playing experience, and sports psychology background helped Tracy develop immensely throughout her college career.  His upbeat personality, calm demeanor, and approachability are just a few of the characteristics that make him an excellent coach.  He is passionate about the game and genuinely cares about all of the students he works with.

Steffen played professionally for five years with the Albany Capitals of the ASL and APSL before entering the coaching ranks.  He has had coaching stints at Lyndon State College, the University of Albany, Greensboro College, Furman University, Duke University, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and the University of Oregon before settling back at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He served as an assistant at each school with the exception of Greensboro College, where he held the head coaching position for two seasons, and Oregon, where he was the head coach from 1996-2005.

Currently, Bill is an assistant coach at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro working primarily with the goalkeepers.  He is also busy completing his doctorate in sport and exercise psychology as well as serving as a national staff coach for the NSCAA.

It is of the utmost importance to Dynasty Goalkeeping to hire high level staff coaches who are experts in their field, such as Greg Gatz & Bill Steffen.  This will continue to be a priority for staffing in the future.
